In conjunction with America Recycles Day on Nov. 15, Trex will launch its 10th annual Plastic Film Recycling Challenge that pits K-12 schools against one another in a fun, friendly competition to collect and recycle the most polyethylene plastic.

October 15 is the deadline for schools to sign up.

The Trex Plastic Film Recycling Challenge is a fun and friendly way for kids to learn about recycling.

Trex is one of the largest recyclers of plastic in North America, using more than 1.5 billion plastic bags each year to make our beautiful composite products. Together with the thousands of schools that have participated in the recycling challenge over the years, we have been able to prevent millions of plastic bags from ending up in landfills.

This program is easy for schools to implement. Just register here and you will receive detailed instructions, promotional materials, recycling bins and a list of qualifying recyclable materials.

Once a month, schools weigh and report their collection totals, and deliver the recycled plastic to designated drop-off points in their community so that it can be shipped to Trex.

Regional finalists and a national winner will be announced in conjunction with Earth Day on April 22, 2017. All participating schools receive an award made from Trex decking boards. Regional and national winners each will earn a Trex composite bench to help beautify their school’s playground or campus.

  • Grocery and retail bags
  • Bread bags
  • Case overwrap
  • Dry cleaning bags
  • Newspaper sleeves
  • Ice bags
  • Wood pellet bags
  • Ziploc and other reclosable bags
  • Produce bags

  • Cereal bags
