As one of the largest recyclers of PE film in North America, we feel a deep sense of responsibility to raise consumer awareness about the importance of recycling. We believe that for the circular economy to be achieved, everyone needs access to participate. Otherwise, items like plastic bags will continue to be sent to landfill and not recycled and returned to productive uses like the manufacture of Trex products.
Through our community outreach and collection programs, NexTrex® Grassroots Movement and the annual Plastic Film Recycling Challenge, we partner with municipalities, non-profits, small businesses and schools to promote environmental awareness, mobilize grassroots action and make PE film recycling more accessible throughout the continental United States and Alaska. In 2023, we recycled more than 3.1 million pounds of waste PE from community sources through these two programs.
Trex and our employees support a broad array of charitable organizations through donations and volunteering. Together, we contributed more than $410,000 to community causes in 2023.
Through our longstanding support of United Way, we help improve health, education and financial stability in local communities. United Way of Northern Shenandoah, VA, honored us with a 2023 as the branch’s largest contributor for the 15th consecutive year.
We’re proud of our ongoing partnership with NW Works, a nonprofit that bridges the employment gap for people with disabilities and barriers to employment. We are working to transition more NW Works employees to full-time employment with us.
